what do we do?During weekly meetings held on Friday's at lunch, we explore major applications of artificial intelligence and computer science in today's society, ranging from the role of computer vision in self-driving cars to the use of machine learning techniques in bioinformatics to diagnose fatal diseases.
Additionally, we host various coding events targeted towards elementary school and middle school students in the Los Angeles area. So far, we've hosted reached around 200 students with our Code Night events, which is a series of coding workshops at local elementary schools. To learn more about the event and how things went, please feel free to visit the Blog section of our website. We are currently organizing a tech conference for high school students! |
Why care? |
Along with physics and engineering, computer science remains a field with one of the greatest gender gaps and least racial representation. The primary causes of this are the lack of early exposure to computers, access to opportunities and resources, and encouragement to succeed.
In recent years, awareness for this problem has increased, and several initiatives have made tremendous progress in breaking down stereotypes in CS and increasing diversity. We hope that through our events, we can help alleviate this issue and encourage interest in computer science in our surrounding community.
